Securing their first Champions League finish in two decades last season, have certainly embarked on a remarkable rise under Eddie Howe.
While the Magpies might be dealing with some public financial restraints this summer, the former Bournemouth boss saw his side make a major statement on intent earlier in the month as they announced the arrival of AC Milan superstar in a £55million deal.
With it all but confirmed that will be the next Premier League star heading out to Saudi Arabia, Newcastle are keen on adding reinforcements with top-flight experience.
With under six weeks until the summer transfer window officially slams shut, we have taken a look at three British stars that could be on their way to the north east.
Harvey Barnes Leicester
While Newcastle might have only welcomed Anthony Gordon to St. James’ Park back in January after agreeing on a £50million deal with Everton, it has been heavily suggested this summer that Howe is keen on adding to his attacking options.
With the former Bournemouth boss identifying as his number-one choice to replace the departing Saint-Maximin, reported on Wednesday that the Magpies are inching towards a deal with Leicester.
Already watching James Maddison make the move to Tottenham last month, the Foxes had already accepted that both Maddison and Barnes would be leaving the King Power after losing their Premier League status.
With suggesting on Thursday afternoon that Barnes has already undergone a medical at St. James’ Park, Howe’s men are expected to pay a fee in the region of £38million for a player who notched 13 Premier League strikes last season.
While the likes of West Ham might have also been linked with a potential move for the 25-year-old this summer, Howe will be hugely excited to snap up his number-one target this week.
Tino Livramento Southampton
With it looking to Barnes move to the north east could be announced as early as this weekend, the St. James’ Park hierarchy have now turned their attention to another recently relegated star.
Eventually losing their Premier League status with a real whimper last season and knowing that they look set to lose midfield talisman , it also appears that Tino Livramento will be another first-team star heading for the exit.
With Russell Martin’s new side stating that they will be forced to move on their best players this summer, reported on Thursday afternoon that Newcastle are close to finalising a £30million deal for the ex-Chelsea schoolboy.
While Livramento might have missed large spells of last season after dealing with a long-term knee injury, the 20-year-old has gained a string of praise since making the move to St. Mary’s two years ago.
Although might have inserted a buyback clause when they sold Livramento in November 2021, the England youth international is desperate to complete his move to the north east.
Kieran Tierney Arsenal
After breaking the bank this summer on the likes of , Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber, it is no secret that are looking to slash their bumper wage bill before the summer window slams shut on September 1st.
Although Kieran Tierney might have endeared himself to fans around north London since arriving from Celtic back in the summer of 2019, the Scotland international has continued to struggle with a string of injury issues.
Watching the versatile Oleksandr Zinchenko cement his spot as Mikel Arteta’s number-one choice at left-back after making the move from last year, it has been suggested that Tierney would be allowed to leave the Emirates if a suitable offer came in.
Still with three years left on his current deal at Arsenal, reported last month that Newcastle are keen on striking a deal with the Gunners and believe a fee in the region of £30million would be enough to complete a permanent switch this summer.
While Tierney’s former club might also be linked with a potential swoop, it appears to be Howe’s side that currently sits in pole position.
