The English Premier League stars who could be on Newcastle’s wishlist in January

With it finally announced earlier in the month that Newcastle s was completed amidst real controversy, the Magpies are now desperate to try and find an on-field boost.

Getting a new era underway last weekend in their first appearance since public departure, the north east outfit had to settle for a flattering a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Still sat in the drop zone and one of just three Premier League sides still waiting for their first win since opening the 2021/22 campaign, all eyes will be on St. James Park come January.

Knowing that they must splash their new-found cash and recruit well when the window reopens, we have taken a look at a handful of top-flight stars who have been linked with a move to Newcastle.

James Tarkowski Burnley

Knowing that they were lucky to have eventually grabbed a point against Crystal Palace last weekend, there is no doubt that Newcastle are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements come January.

Already conceding 20 Premier League goals so far, the second-worst defensive tally in the division, it was reported by following Newcastle s takeover that the Magpies have their sights set on James Tarkowski.

Stating that the Burnley defender is likely to be one of the first new arrivals at St. James Park, it is also believed that the 28-year-old would be keen on a lucrative move to the north east when the window reopens.

Previously working with Newcastle advisor Frank McParland during Tarkowski s time at Brentford, the two-cap England international has also entered the final 12 months of his current deal at Turf Moor.

With Burnley looking to avoid letting their star defender head out the door on a free next summer, also reported last week that Tarkowski does have a gentleman s agreement in place with the Clarets.

Conor Coady Wolves

With a string of question marks over the futures of Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Emil Krafth, it has been reported that Tarkowski is not the only English defender who is at the top of Newcastle s January wishlist.

Once again featuring in Gareth Southgate s England squad at the European Championships over the summer, Conor Coady has continued to gain a host of plaudits during his tenure at Wolves.

Helping the Oranges reach the knockout stage of the Europa League following their stellar Premier League return back in 2018, the 28-year-old also has also worked under McParland during his time at Liverpool.

However, while it might have also been reported by The Sun that Newcastle are keen on striking a deal for Wolves skipper in January, Bruno Lage s new side are not willing to let their defender go on the cheap.

Putting pen to paper on a new five-year deal at Molineux just last year, are suggesting that Wolves have put a £20million price tag on the seven-cap England ace.

Jesse Lingard Manchester Unied

Watching on from the bench on Sunday afternoon as Manchester United were hit with a stunning against Liverpool at Old Trafford, it once again appears that Jesse Lingard s future lies elsewhere.

Hitting the ground running when he secured a January loan move to last season, the 28-year-old played a vital role as the Hammers secured a Europa League finish on route to breaking a host of records.

However, making the decision to return to Manchester, there has been no movement on a new deal for Lingard and the England midfielder only has a few more months left on his current contract.

With it being heavily reported that the United academy product is desperate to secure regular game time, Newcastle have been linked as a possible destination for Lingard.

With reporting that Lingard s agent was in attendance at Newcastle s against Tottenham earlier in the month, the United playmaker would be a welcomed addition to the Magpies downbeat squad.
