The Ravens have occasionally thrown two-quarterback looks at opponents this season, with both Lamar Jackson and Joe Flacco on the field at the same time. When Flacco has to split out wide, he does so with all the enthusiasm of a child forced to dress up for church. This is only a little better than Mark Sanchez’s incredible false start, but yeah, Joe’s not contributing at all to the play. That’s fine, since he can’t pick up an injury by just standing, but Flacco’s wife Dana thinks he should at least look like a pass-catching threat. From Jamison Hensley of ESPN: “My wife gave me crap the one day, told me I need to look more interested out there,” Flacco said Wednesday. “But I’m just trying to stay out of it. I’m not comfortable out there. I don’t need to get too …
The year is coming to a close, and as such it's time for the Deadspin Hall of Fame. We'll be presenting our roster of nominees starting tomorrow, with the candidates deserving of induction to be unveiled next week. In years past, the Hall of Fame announcement has coincided with our end-of-the-year SHOTY competition. Going forward, we've decided to dispense with the SHOTY. Just because. We requested your suggestions for possible Hall of Fame worthies back in September. While our tireless Hall of Fame committee has compiled a list of the five we think we're going to put forth for your consideration, we'd like to give you one last opportunity to offer up someone else we might have missed. Just leave your choices in the comments, and be sure to check back tomorrow…
data-mm-id=”_nlyt9q5bd”>Ronald Acuna is one of the most exciting young players in baseball and he showed that during Game 1 of the National League Division Series. Acuna was incredible, but managed to tick off his Atlanta Braves teammates while also displaying his prodigious talent. The Braves lost to to the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6 Thursday night, but Acuna went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI. He also made an egregious mistake by not running out of the box on a long fly ball and wound up with a single.Check it out:Ronald Acuña Jr. gets caught watching the ball again. pic.twitter.com/nuXK6J9e5D— handlit33 (@handlit33) October 3, 2019 After the game Acuna's teammates were not happy with him and they were vocal about it. A collection of their responses are below.Fre…
data-mm-id=”_4gacoy5cl”>The Golden State Warriors will not be participating in the playoffs this season. It will be the first time since 2012 that the Warriors will not make the postseason. It will be the first time since 2015 that a team besides the Warriors will win the Western Conference. Enjoy it. Because next season the status quo returns. You know that John Wick scene where he says he's thinking he's back and then he kills everyone? The basketball version of that is about to happen. Stephen Curry will return some time next month after breaking his hand in October. He's had the season off and he's about to get a month's worth of exhibition games to return to form. Draft spot be damned. Ratings be saved. Steve Kerr on the idea of holding out a healthy Steph…
data-mm-id=”_dbna3c8j9″>Mitch Trubisky seemed to regress in year three, throwing seven fewer touchdowns and nearly 100 fewer yards than his sophomore season. More than that, he looked lost on the field at times, missing wide open receivers and making questionable decisions when his team needed him to play his best. Following that kind of disappointment, reports emerged that the Bears plan on upgrading their backup QB position in an effort to challenge Trubisky, who they already named the starting QB heading into the season. With that in mind, here are three vets who could come in and beat Trubisky for the Bears starting QB job. 1. data-mm-id=”_pu88ojoe1″>The Boston Celtics trading down in the 2017 NBA Draft to select Jayson Tatum will go down as one of the best draft-day trades in history, and only looks better as the years go on and Tatum's star profile rises. However, if it were up to Tatum, things would not have happened that way at all. Tatum appeared on the popular All The Smoke podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson to shoot the bull about quarantine and basketball. He told the players-turned-podcast-hosts that he didn't want to be drafted by the Celtics, hoping to end up in Phoneix instead. Tatum had been wooed by then-Suns coach Earl Watson, and felt like that was the right landing spot for him before the draft. Then Danny Ainge called (starting at the 24:00 mark): "I remember, I get…
data-mm-id=”_vq96tuuop”>Life as a fan of the New York Knicks is a constant struggle. The dawn of each day brings some kind of public disaster or meltdown for the franchise. It's been this way for so long I doubt any Knicks fans even remembers what it's like to be happy about the state of their team. The most recent issue to have popped up was the extraordinarily weak statement put out by James Dolan yesterday, which was a day late and a dollar short anyway. Max Kellerman ripped Dolan and the Knicks, saying a grade-school kid could have written that in five minutes. Brian Windhorst went on First Take today and told the crew that the fallout has extended far beyond public bashing in the media. "The Knicks … approval rating amongst players is so low right now, it's d…
data-mm-id=”_j2qyt4ckv”>The Boston Celtics were on the verge of going 3-0 on the defending champion Toronto Raptors. Kemba Walker made the play of his career with a no-look pass to Daniel Theis to put his team up two with half a second remaining. Then O.G. Anunoby snuck to the corner, Kyle Lowry dropped it in the breadbasket, and Anunoby hit an ice-cold game-winner to keep the Raptors in this series. It could be a playoff-changing play. Game 4 will come on Saturday evening. Toronto is officially back in the series after the Celtics looked far and away like the better team for the majority of the minutes to that point. But losing a game with less than a second left on the clock, a mere moment away from an insurmountable deficit, is the definition of a back-breaking development. Jaylen B…
data-mm-id=”_ofcdfot6z”>Four years ago, Tony Romo suffered a back fracture in preseason, paving the way for rookie Dak Prescott to take the reins as the Cowboys starting quarterback. Prescott proceeded to lead the Cowboys to a 13-3 season in 2016 and hasn't missed a start since. That streak will end this coming week after Prescott suffered a devastating, season-ending ankle injury against the Giants.Which brings me back to Romo. Wouldn't it be incredible if he came out of retirement, signed with the Cowboys and gave it one more run at a Super Bowl? Rob Gronkowski is doing that with the Buccaneers and even Romo's former teammate, Jason Witten, unretired and is now playing for the Raiders. Who says Romo can't do the same thing? Of course, this is fantasy. Romo is paid…
data-mm-id=”_q65avbpix”>The Golden State Warriors blew out the Dallas Mavericks on TNT on Thursday night, 147-116. The Warriors made 22 of 43 three point attempts. Dallas made 20 of 50. Charles Barkley enjoyed approximately none of this. At halftime he broke it down like this.””Ya’ll sit there and watch this stupid ass basketball. Just jack up threes all night. If they go in we win. We miss they lose. Give me a break, you dumb asses.” “pic.twitter.com/BzAxCQ9rGR— Follow @Dubs408 (@NotNotDubs408) February 5, 2021I mean, this is just the sports ball meme. This is exactly what someone would say about basketball if they did not like basketball. You throw the ball at the hoop and if it goes in you win. You have to feel for Barkley. He is forced to visit the TNT studio two to three nights …
